A Shocking Start For Djokovic In 2017, No Guarantee Of Open Retu In 2018
A sad news for all Djokovic fans at the start of 2017. A wild card entry in Australian Open “Denis Istomin” from Uzbekistan defeated Novak in an epic match: 7-6, 5-7, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4.
That’s quite a shocker considering the history of Novak who have easily cruised through semifinals of Australian Open every year and have gone ahead and won the tournament 6 times in the last 9 years. Ironically, the conclusion of the match was not quite shocking for Novak but it was definitely a jaw dropping moment for the world number 117 Denis Istomin who has never defeated any top seeded player in tennis in his entire career.
The 30-year-old player Denis reacted: “I didn’t expect to be doing what I’m doing now and what I did on the court”. This is surely a remarkable victory for Denis considering his stature of being an underdog basis his past records of losing multiple games in a row.
Though Djokovic had a good start in 2016 when he won the Australian Open and French open titles. With his charming acts on the court and brilliance style in the game, the Serbian has been highly popular amongst the crowd and always attract attention. Djokovic accepted his defeat and acknowledged an impressive gameplay by Denis seemed confident and aggressive after the first set victory over Novak. Though it surely is a heartening news for all Djokovic fans but the we all can hope the Serbian to jump back soon to the and regain the No.1 spot on the ranking table soon as Novak quoted – “I always tried to win. I was as competitive as I am today”.
