The 18-year-old athlete of Assam, Hima Das, is trending on top of Google. That’s because only a few minutes ago, she made history in the city of Tampere, Finland. Hima has won gold medal in the 400 meters race of the IAAF World U-20 Athletics Championship.
It is for the first time that India has got the gold medal in the IAAF track competition. Prior to that, any female player of India, junior or senior, could not win gold in the world championship at any level. Hima completed the race in 51.46 seconds.
Romania’s Andrea Miklos got silver and Taylor Manson of America got Bronze Medal. Hima was not even among the top three players till the 35th of the race, but later he got caught and made history.
The story of Hima is not just that much. She has a great deal of hard work and courage behind his immense success. Hima is the daughter of an Assamese farmer who cultivates rice. She belongs to a very simple family.
Her coach, Nippon Das, told that he had complete confidence that she would definitely join the top three. In the 400-meter race, she has observed the strength of his power all over the world. Her coach told that Hima had already stepped on the racing track two years ago.
Nippon told that in the beginning, Hima used to play football with the boys. When coach Nippon saw him dressing the boys on the field, he met her family members and advised him to try luck in the athlete world. The family was unable to make the athlete an athlete, so from the beginning the coach helped him a lot.
At first, Hima had to leave his family and settle for about 140 kilometers. For this, his family was not initially ready for this, but the family was knee-jerked ahead of the insistence of coach Nipole and then started the successful journey of Hima.
The special thing is that after winning the gold medal, Hema has now joined the Indian Athlete’s Elite Club. But like Seema Punia, Navjit Kaur Dhillon and Neeraj Chopra, she has emerged as a person who has got popularity with success
Let me tell you that during the semi-finals held on Wednesday, she was in first place taking out the time of 52.10 seconds. In the first round heat, she stayed in first place with 52.25 time. The Athletics Federation of India also congratulated Hima Das for their success.
